Annual Fund: Roof and HVAC Replacement

Your donation to the Annual Fund will help fund the initial phase of the roof and HVAC replacement project.

Why does the Temple need a new flat roof over the Pam Shulman Education Center?
The rubber roof over the Pam Shulman Education Center was last replaced more than 35 years ago and was patched numerous times after the major 2008 construction. Leaks continue to damage the structure and interior below.

Why does our HVAC system need replacement?
The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system consists of six rooftop units (RTUs) which provide environmental control and one boiler coupled with air conditioning units that heat and cool the sanctuary. All are fueled by natural gas. The air conditioning units are more than 35 years old and are at the end of their useful life. The RTUs, which are more than 15 years old, are also at the end of their useful life. Additionally, these units do not provide the ventilation or fresh air exchange needed to meet current requirements. All the ductwork and units for the HVAC sit on top of the rubber roof and will need to be removed before the roof replacement.

Why is a preliminary study necessary before we replace the flat roof over the Pam Shulman Education Center?
Systems are evolving quickly in the areas of environmental control and reducing our carbon footprint. Energy analysis studies and HVAC hardware consulting will provide us with information we need in order to select the most effective and environmentally sustainable solution, to ensure the building’s integrity for use by future generation.
