Why choose the ELC?
Our small group size, low student/teacher ratio, and values-based curriculum make the ELC stand out among preschools. Our location in downtown Portsmouth opens up wonderful enrichment opportunities, from visits to the fire station to walks in the gardens at Prescott Park.
My child is not Jewish. Will we feel comfortable at the ELC?
Yes. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and religions. Our program is grounded in the richness of Jewish values that speak to our shared humanity.
What is your educational philosophy?
We are Montessori-inspired. With our small size and low student/teacher ratio, we embrace the diversity of children’s learning styles with differentiated instruction to meet each child’s needs.
What is the curriculum’s focus?
Activities and materials balance Judaic and secular content, with a focus on beginning math, language, literacy, fine and gross motor skills, the arts, and S.T.E.M. skills. We emphasize social/emotional, independence, and problem-solving skills.
What age children do you accept?
We offer an ideal learning environment for children 2.9 years to 6 years old.
What is the school’s schedule?
We have a flexible schedule designed to meet your family’s unique needs. You can choose among our 3-, 4-, and 5-day programs. School meets Monday–Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., from September through early June.
What safety standards can I expect?
We are a licensed NH State Childcare facility, with experienced and degreed First Aid- and CPR-certified staff. Our secure building also features a new, onsite playground which meets the safety standards set by the State of New Hampshire.
How much does the Early Learning Center cost?
The cost depends on whether or not you are a Temple Israel member, and also how many days your child attends. View fee schedule.
How do I enroll my child?
The first step is to contact ELC Director Tammy Roberge at 603-436-5301 Ext. 23 to set up a tour. We look forward to welcoming you to the ELC Preschool!
